Wrobo's High Life

A collection of some of my best work and some of my disasters.

This is a shot from my pano shots. It is nothing special but I like it alot and it has some good potential to be something like an advertisement. The person is my roommate Casey.

This is the red line train in Chicago, the Clark station to be exact. I thought I could have done alot better with this shot but this was the best to come out. I kept it darker because I like the contrast between the light and dark areas.  Also, I feel that keeping it a little underexposed really represented this particular station. I wish it would have worked out in color as well.

A student from Northwestern University gives blood at a Red Cross blood drive at the Northwestern Memorial hospital Friday February 22. One pint of blood, the amount normally given at one time, can save the lives of three people.

This is an awesome detail beth. The lighting is perfect and the structure of the photo is great. Macro is just a term for shooting small details really close. And i don’t think that the tint is that bad but it does take a little from the photo. Good job though.

I really like these, I’ve always wanted to try something similar to this.  Really cool though. (Kyle) birdie: macro abilities? (sorry i’m just not familar with what that is).. i added the tint, no good?  ittybittyphoto: Playing with the macro abilities of you camera is a great way to get interesting results.  I think you might have a little green tint to these?  Is there a B&W Jones soda label in these?  (bp)  birdie: guitar happy2 this time i liked the pretty light coming through my curtains so i tried incorporating it into the photo. i think the cropping bothers me a little bit -like  maybe i cropped too much? any thoughts?  shutter speed:1/125, f/9, ISO:800, focal length: 38mm, flash fired

Does anybody like this picture???? Or better yet, does anyone see something about this that I don’t. I kind of like it but I don’t know why. Let me know. Does anybody like this picture???? This is how i would have liked to see the last edited. It makes it look alot better and more representative of the scene. This is how i would have liked to see the last edited. It makes it look alot better and more representative of the scene.

This is my shot for the ICPA shoot. I took second place in the competition and I had a lot of fun during it. I did not agree with the editor at the Tribune about using this shot. I had explained to him that my shot did not represent the scene well enough, because of the white balance, and we should use something else. Well he disagreed and we used this shot which suprisingly enough made second place. Also, I belive that I should have taken 1st because the person who won had put wrong information in her cutline. O well.

I will just say this about shooting basketball, I am glad baseball season is about to start. I have had a miserable time shoot b-ball this year. I think the lighting sucks. Positioning for a shot isn’t all that great. And yea I have always wondered about the use of flash, I have seen some players look at me when they missed their shot as if it was my fault. But it normally doesn’t bother them. I have even had trouble shooting with the strobes. Again I say, thank god baseball season is here!!!!!  GO CUBS!!!!! Nice graphic shot but why is he playing with the jelly and i really want to see more of his face to grab the emotion of what he doing. (RW) Nice graphic shot but why is he playing with the jelly and i really want to see more of his face to grab the emotion of what he doing. (RW)

It all depends on the situation. If I was invited or allowed to take shots I would for sure. Yes it is a private moment but at the same time there is no reason not to. private moments are the ones that need to be shot not because we are jerks but because it’s the story. This is about a boy saying good-bye to his sister, a touching and emotional moment that defines what is going on. It is sad but at the same time it has a semi-jovial tone to it. This boy giving his sister a kiss to say good-bye and the mom having to hold him up. There is no faces so no direct identification is presented which also, makes the decision easier to shoot. There is also no emotion from the faces so you are left to determine what emotion to place in the picture. I could be wrong about this but this is my take on the situation. There are elements that we don’t know about how the shot was taken so it really depends on that. Good discussion photo though. (RW) It all depends on the situation. lydiasphotos: Flora Wolves bench player David Rudy stands on the back of Ron Rose to reach Ian Ridge during the starting lineup announcements of the Newton Regional Championship game on Friday, Feb. 22.  This was my fifth attempt at this shot.  Ian had his eyes closed in a couple of them and the other weren’t exposed very well. **week 7 photo (Rebel XTi, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/200 sec, 55 mm)  This is interesting and fun to look at, the contrast of the people, which is obviously the point.  It’s just cool that you were able to capture that moment.  (Kyle)
Good concept for a photo. I wish you would have been able to get closer and maybe shoot upwards some how. The content is good but the composition is a little harsh. I understand that you probably couldn’t have ran up to them so i would have at least tried to move and shoot long. I do like the shot though it is fun. (RW)

rugger13: Here is a feature shot I took at the bowling alley in the union.  I didn’t get all of the red in the lace, but Ill try to go back and change it. (1/30, f/5.6, f/5.6, ISO-200, f-length 210.0mm **Week 5  This is a good detail shot of the bowling alley.  I do like the red, but I think it might look better as just black and white.  (lydia)
Awesome detail shot!!!! i really like how you focused on the one shoe with clear number on the back of the shoe. The simplicity of the colors really helps bring the red out. (RW)

That’s more like what I was trying to do with this photo, just making the birds silhouettes, but I didn’t know if we could manipulate our photos that much.
Making silhouettes does not change the reality of the photo. You have taken nothing out of the actual photo, therefore you did not manipulate it. Ethical issues are more like there was a stop sign in the photo and you took it out. All you did was change the exposure and did not delete any other information. I say you did a good job, nice photo. (RW)
